About us - King Soopers (2024)

For over 60 years, King Soopers has been dedicated to providing the highest quality groceries and exceptional customer service to families across Colorado. Founded in 1947, we have grown from a single store in Arvada to over 150 locations across the state today. But through all of our growth and evolution over the decades, our commitment to being a trusted neighborhood grocery store has remained the same.

Our History

King Soopers was founded by Joe King and his business partner Bob Soupene in 1947. They opened the very first King Soopers in Arvada, CO with a simple goal – to provide quality groceries at affordable prices. In those early days, King Soopers focused on offering exceptional meat and produce, bringing in the freshest fruits, vegetables and cuts of meat every day.

As King Soopers grew over the years, we expanded our selection to become a full-service grocery store. We added bakeries, pharmacies, and sit-down dining sections to provide even more convenience and value to our shoppers. In the 1980s, King Soopers began opening larger Marketplace stores, featuring an even wider array of departments and products under one roof.

Today, King Soopers operates over 150 stores across Colorado’s Front Range and Western Slope. We continue to provide that same focus on quality, service and value that Joe King started with back in 1947. Now a subsidiary of Kroger, King Soopers is proud to remain a Colorado-owned company serving Colorado communities.

Our Stores

King Soopers stores come in a variety of sizes to fit the needs of each individual neighborhood. Our smallest stores contain about 45,000 square feet, while our largest Marketplace stores can be up to 140,000 square feet. No matter what the size, each store is designed to make shopping easy and enjoyable.

When you walk into a King Soopers, you’ll find wide aisles with clear signage to make navigation simple. Our departments are strategically placed so you can pick up everything on your list with ease. You’ll find a full-service meat counter with butchers ready to assist you, a fresh bakery with cakes, pies and artisan breads baked daily, and a large produce section filled with crisp fruits and vegetables delivered daily.

Most King Soopers locations also contain additional services like pharmacies, florists, wine & spirits, gas stations and dining areas. Our goal is to be your one-stop shop for everything your family needs. We even have online shopping with curbside pickup available to help save you time!
