It looks set to be a chilly June with temperatures only warming up on a few occasions as Britain is blasted with Arctic air.

It’s not good news for those looking to relegate winter coats to the loft as the UK gets stuck in a “damp chilly rut”. Brits up and down the country have been tempted to switch the central heating back on as June feels cooler than usual.
And for those hoping that summer weather is on its way might there could be disappointment as the current predictions are that mercury won’t rise over 20C again until later in the month.
New weather maps from Netweather say that temperatures of 21C will be reached on Friday, June 28 - and that’s only around the London area.
At the other end of the country - including the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland - the temperature will be as low as 9C on the same day.

As we approach the end of the month other maps predict lows of 6C around Manchester on Sunday June, 16. On the same day the top temperature is predicted only to reach a top temperature of 12C around Taunton and Exeter near the south coast.
Weather expert Jim Dale, who is senior meteorological consultant and founder of British Weather Services, says the current weather is more autumnal.
He said: “For now we’re locked into something of a damp chilly rut, the opposite of record 40-45C heat and unbroken sunshine in Eastern Europe.
“We are at the mercy of an active jet steam and occasional modified Arctic air, more akin to Autumn really.
“Patience is still required as we’re only 14 days into summer. A little more warmth through next week should help.”

The Met Office issues a long range forecast that covers Tuesday, June 18 until Thursday, June 27 but predicts that temperatures will be above average.
It says: “It is most probable that initially fine conditions will prevail for most, with more changeable conditions with cloud and some rain being confined to the far north and northwest, temperatures will likely be close to or slightly above average.
“Although even during this time, a few daytime showers could pop up in the east.
“However, there is a slight chance of an alternative scenario that initially an area of cloud could edge northwestwards from Europe and bring a few days of thundery rain and fairly hot/ humid conditions to the southeast.
“Into the last week of June, on balance it appears more probable that milder than average conditions will continue, with the wind from the southerly quadrant. During this time rainfall looks quite variable (some places dry others wet).”
